Effective Speaking Committee
The purpose of Effective Speaking is to provide an opportunity for competitive speaking and to stimulate self – expression and independent thinking among students.
The competition is open to students from Grade 6 – 12 and they may give their speech in either English or French in the following categories:
Intermediate Grades 9 – 10 English and French
Senior Grades 11 – 12 English and French
Juniors will give a prepared speech of 3 to 5 minutes duration on a topic of his/her choosing. Intermediate and Seniors will give a prepared speech of 5 to 7 minutes duration on topic of his/her choosing. In addition, each contestant will present an impromptu speech of 2 to 3 minutes duration on a topic selected at random.
The winners of each category at the Bowmanville competition will advance to the District finals.
The winners at the District level will speak at the Multiple District finals.
